Huw Merriman, MP, visits Heathfield Farmers Market
Heathfield MP, Huw Merriman, made a visit to the Heathfield Farmers Market on Saturday 20 April, Easter weekend, to support this highly successful local market and meet the stallholders and shoppers.
Huw chatted to all of the stallholders and met with the organisers from the Heathfield Partnership Trust. Huw is seen here photographed with Colin Williams, Director of the Partnership and Chairman of the Farmer's Market Committee, Cllr Rupert Simmons, Chairman of the Heathfield Partnership Trust and John Miller, Manager of the Co-operative Store, who works in harmony with the market on every third Saturday of the month.
The Co-op does especially well on market days as shoppers come from far and wide for the wide selection of goods and produce available at the market and then spend time visiting the other retailers in the market town. As part of the Easter theme, there was a free competition for children who had to find Easter-themed pictures hidden on all the stalls to win Easter eggs. A happy excitement for all those families involved.
The Heathfield Farmer's Market has been running now for 20 years and is a great opportunity for local producers to display their goods and for shoppers to get the freshest of produce.
Huw said “I am a big supporter of local high streets and farmers markets and, as a local resident, I am well acquainted with Heathfield’s shops. The Farmers Market is a great asset to the town and a real attraction for local residents and those who come from further afield for the great choice of local quality produce on sale. I thoroughly enjoy the market shopping experience which offers a customer service second to none.”
