Heathfield Partnership's new Community Youth Committee
The Community Youth Committee is a group recently set up to address the provision or lack of provision of activities available for the young people of the area and particularly the work of the Heathfield Youth Centre.
The group consists of representatives from the Heathfield Partnership, Heathfield Street Pastors, Churches Together in Heathfield & District, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Parish Council, Kings Church and Youth workers for East Sussex County Council (ESCC).
Due to lack of funding and further likely cut backs in 2020, ESCC can only provide enough finance to cover the basic requirements to keep the Heathfield Youth Centre open. This means that there is not enough funding for the staff who are doing an excellent job in the circumstances to provide external activities, so the Centre will only be able to run sessions in-house. As the Youth Centre is run by ESCC the staff are not able to apply for most grants because they are not a registered charity. Therefore the newly formed Community Youth Committee are seeking ways, not only to help maintain the Youth Centre, but to provide funding for increased activities for the many young people who attend. For instance, football training, road safety, Pilates, boxing training, and also to be able to take the young people out on the occasional external trip to broaden their learning and experiences.
The committee consider it vital that the Youth Centre remains not only open, but also able to provide activities which will interest and inspire the young people. Donations would be welcome and may be sent to The Heathfield Partnership Trust Ltd, c/o 73 High Street, Heathfield, TN21 8HU.
