Indoor Swimming Pool Project

Volunteers needed for marathon - 1 April

If you are not able to take part in the marathon but would still like to help raise money for the swimming pool project then why not volunteer and raise £20.00!

Volunteer marshalls are needed from around 8.00am until around 4.00pm (depending on exactly what role someone has) on Sunday 1 April for the first marathon to be held in Heathfield.  Most volunteers will be needed to marshal out on the course, help at an aid station (with drinks/food) on the course or at the start/finish area near to the Community Centre.  Some volunteers will be required earlier in the morning for registration at the Community Centre (probably from 7.00am).

Full details will be sent out to all marshals in advance and will have a Marshal Co-ordinator and Team Leaders around on the day for any queries, so it should be a very enjoyable day for all involved and the athletes really will be grateful for the assistance.

If you are going to volunteer on behalf of the Heathfield Partnership's indoor swimming pool fundraising project it would be useful if you could mention that, so they know where your donation of £20.00 will go towards.

Winner of the Vauxhall Agila is Theresita Caldwell from Bodle St Green, near Hailsham.

The draw took place on Saturday 8 January 2011 with Beverley Thompson, former BBC newsreader, making the draw.  There was a very good attendance with representatives from the Parish Council, Co-Op, Heathfield Community College, Freedom Leisure and Heathfield Youth Centre, to name but a few and everyone enjoyed the quiz and fish and chip supper.

The Co-Op presented a cheque for £4,000.00 as this project was their charity of the year for 2010.  A cheque was also presented for £3,000.00 from NatWest as the project was the winner of their community fund scheme (and we thank everyone who voted for it).

More photos of the event are available soon in the Photo Gallery section.

The car was supplied by Goldsmith and Allcorn, Station Road, Heathfield.

Planning application - a consultancy firm has now been commissioned to start work on the planning application paperwork.

Background Information

The Sport and Leisure Committee of the Heathfield Partnership is currently working towards building an indoor swimming pool in Heathfield. In 2005 the Heathfield Area Pool Initiative (HAPI) carried out a survey and 5,000 people said they would like an indoor swimming pool in Heathfield. The subsequent feasibility study (please see summary below) carried out in 2006, which the Partnership raised funds for, endorsed this and identified the most suitable site for the swimming pool, as being Heathfield Community College's existing leisure facility. A business plan was produced in 2008. This committee are currently raising funds for design work for a planning application for the swimming pool and fitness centre project to be based at Heathfield Community College. The Partnership is still in need of further funding for this and would be grateful for any assistance that may be forthcoming. Should you be aware of any potential funding please contact the Heathfield Partnership Co-ordinator on 01892 610314.

You can support HAPI now and help make it happen!

For a relatively small annual subscription (see membership form below) you will be helping to sustain the future of the swimming pool project and be supporting our ongoing campaign. HAPI will keep you in touch with news of the project's progress through their regular swimming pool updates. Subscriptions are the campaign's life blood; they pay for printing, publicity, stationery and postage and they contributed £1,500 towards the feasibility study, and importantly your subscription will be helping to fund the upcoming planning submission.

Please look at the documents below and read the latest HAPI update for full information on the current status of the project, as well as seeing the list of supporters.

Contact details for HAPI:  Don Rigg, telephone number:  01435 863855.
